MEW MEXICO ZOOS & AQUARIUMS

  • ABQ BioPark Zoo – Albuquerque
    The largest zoo in New Mexico, this 64-acre park features hundreds of exotic and native animals, including elephants, big cats, primates, reptiles, and more. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the zoo is part of the ABQ BioPark complex and offers daily animal encounters, educational programs, and conservation initiatives.
  • ABQ BioPark Aquarium – Albuquerque
    This modern aquarium takes visitors on a journey from the Rio Grande to the Gulf of Mexico, with exhibits featuring local freshwater species, North American river otters, coral reefs, and a massive 285,000-gallon ocean tank with sharks, rays, sea turtles, and tropical fish. The aquarium is part of the ABQ BioPark and features interactive touch tanks and conservation programs.
  • Spring River Zoo – Roswell
    A free, city-run zoo focused on local wildlife and farm animals, with exhibits including bison, prairie dogs, foxes, and a small train ride. The zoo also features a carousel, playground, and family-friendly events.
  • Hillcrest Park Zoo – Clovis
    The second largest zoo in New Mexico, home to a Bengal tiger, giraffes, reptiles, primates, wolves, and more. Located within a large city park, it offers animal encounters, a splash park, playgrounds, and picnic areas, making it ideal for families.
  • Alameda Park Zoo – Alamogordo
    Established in 1898, this is the oldest zoo in the Southwest. It houses over 200 animals, including mountain lions, lemurs, reptiles, birds, and a special focus on native and desert species. The zoo features a playground, picnic areas, and educational programs.
  • Space Hall Animal Park – Alamogordo
    A small animal park adjacent to the New Mexico Museum of Space History, featuring tortoises, birds, and small mammals. Great for families visiting the museum complex.
  • ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden & Tingley Beach – Albuquerque
    While primarily a botanic garden and fishing lake, Tingley Beach and the garden's ponds support local turtles, fish, and waterfowl. The BioPark complex offers a full day of nature and animal experiences.
