Berlin-A glance into the city:

Berlin is the most popular tourist destination after London, Paris, and Rome. Enclosed by the State of Brandenburg, Berlin city is the national capital city of Germany. Built on the sand of two famous rivers of Germany; Spree and Havel, the city is located in the north of Germany.

Berlin city constituted a state of its own in the year 1947, when the State of Prussia was dissolved and the occupation zones formed at that time, prevented it from the remaining part of the State of Brandenburg. It is sixth largest city urban area in the European union in terms of urbanization, with a population density of approximately 3,811 inhabitants per square kilometer, with a total population of 3,426,000.

The key role it played in the German history in the 20th century is what has shaped the present appearance of the city, which consists of number of impressive buildings, a major sight of the tourist’s attractions. The Fersehturm, highest building in the Berlin city, and the second largest structure in the whole Europe, boast of being one of the fastest lifts in Europe, is easily visible throughout most of the central districts of Berlin.

Alexanderplatz , one of the most westernized shopping center, owned by the Kaufhof chain, is the major tourist attraction and favorite haunt for shopping buffs.

The historic town hall, known as Rotes Rathus, is famous for its redbrick architecture.

Modern Berlin:

Modern Berlin, being home to fashionable culture, boasts of Hackescher Market, Spandauer Vorstadt and Scheunenviertel, the ultimate shopping destination with uncountable small trendy clothing shops, clubs, bars, and galleries.

Hackesche Höfe, is popular for being the center for Jewish culture until the 1930’s.It is a conglomeration of several buildings surrounded by nicely constructed courtyards.

The latest to add to the tourist attraction is memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, a holocaust memorial opened in may2005.
