Car
Rentals Florida
Differing
in models, the car rental agencies throughout Florida rent out cars
in exchange for a specific fee. The cars are rented out for a period
that ranges from a day or to a week. Normally these rental agencies
are located nearby to airports that give high opportunity for these
rental companies. Charges are usually based on the agreed rental
time with a driving distance limit, or based on time with an additional
cost per distance unit driven.
Car rentals include
an agreement that is written between the possessor of the car and
the renter who rents the car for a temporary period. The agreement
requires to identify the parties to the agreement, the car given
for rent, the term of the rent and the amount of rent for the given
period.
What
does the rental agreement specify
Florida
car renters specify various restrictions in the usage of rental
cars, mainly specifying the conditions like the period of return
of the car and the situations in which it must be returned.
The
Law in the country
Driving
off road is not permissible in Florida. The vehicle cannot be taken
out of the country without special permission from the required
authorities. Before the car is rented out, the renter must specifically
sign a promise deed that the car will not be driven to the cars
are covered by the 24 hour AA Roadside Assistance
Driving
is not an easy job
A
must for driving is to possess a driver’s license. It is necessary
to mention the drivers name in the contract, for the person to drive
the rented car. The other important consideration that is open for
rental agencies is that the car rented must be covered under the
auto insurance policies. The valid term of the drivers license is
at least 2 years and the driver must be of at least 21 years of
age. If these conditions are not met, the license holder will be
liable to pay a high insurance excess. Drivers in Florida require,
a currently acceptable overseas or an international driving licence.
There will be no added charges for additional drivers.
Before
going for a booking look down for these points
• Surcharge charged
by the airport authorities- The car companies is required to pay
the airport authorities an additional fee that is charged as additional
rent from the customers. If this is so, make sure it is included
in the quote agreement.
• Check for a
valid and full driving license, as age and identification is must
for driving in the country.
• The period of
rental is usually 24 hours. In case the car is returned after the
specified period mentioned in the agreement, be ready to pay an
additional charge. The additional costs are at 20 per cent of the
daily rate and up to five days and a full day from then.
•
Insurance cover is a must for the rental car companies. They often
offer damage covers. If they have not included any insurance cover,
be sure to purchase an insurance cover from an independent insurance
agent, which will cover for the damages caused to the car.
•
Check the terms and conditions and see if there is Third Party Insurance
mentioned in the agreement.
Other
things to take care of :
Varying according
to the terms and conditions of the car companies, some may demand
a bond payable if the car is not returned after the specified time.
The bond is usually held in the form of a credit card authorization
and is returned if the car is returned as per the agreement. The
renter would be asked to sign a separate security bond in the form
of a Credit Card imprint or a cash deposit. The car agencies hold
these bonds as guarantee and it will not be cashed until the vehicle
is returned within the specified time and if the specified conditions
are met.
Rent
The
customer has to pay the rent in dollars. The rent usually includes
12.5 per cent Goods and Service Tax (GST) in it. The car rental
companies accept credit card payments, cash in the form of dollars
or as travelers cheque. The rent is usually paid during the starting
of the hire period. All rates relating to petrol and or other fuel
used in the vehicle during the period, should be borne by the customer.
There is possibility
that the renter will be responsible for any traffic or parking violation
made during the rental period. The hirere should be given full advice
by the renting company on handling thefts, accidents, and break
downs.
Other terms that
are included in the rent agreement include, added fees for late
returns, drop-off at another location, or failure to fill in the
petrol immediately before the car is handed to the rental company.
If there are last minute cancellations of reservations of the bookings
made, 10 per cent of the advance paid towards the rent would be
forfeited.
In
case of repairs or accidents
If the car is
damaged because of an accident or breakdown, the hirer must inform
the owner regarding the condition of the car through telephone or
telegram as soon as practicable. Only with the authority of the
owner, the hirer would do any repairs to stop further damages.
When
should be the vehicle returned
The hirer must
return the car before the expiry of the term of hire and return
the car to the owner’s place of business or to the rental companies
agent at the agent’s place of business.
